
Adam J. Gordon, MD, MPH, FACP, DFASAM, Professor in the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Utah, has been awarded the by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research (HSR) program. This distinguished honor is presented annually to investigators who go above and beyond in mentoring emerging researchers, particularly those who share a commitment to advancing care for Veterans through policy, practice, and research.
Dr. Gordon is Chief of Addiction Medicine and a primary care staff physician at the Salt Lake City VA Health Care System. His academic and clinical work is driven by a deep commitment to advancing care for vulnerable populations, particularly Veterans affected by substance use disorders.
A former VA Research Career Development Awardee, Dr. Gordon founded and served as the inaugural Director of the Vulnerable Veteran Innovative Patient-Aligned Care Team Initiative at the Salt Lake City VA. At the University of Utah School of Medicine, he established and directs the Program for Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge, and Advocacy (PARCKA), a nationally recognized center of excellence in addiction medicine and implementation science.

Dr. Gordon has authored more than 390 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and has secured substantial research and training support from the VA, NIH, and private foundations. In 2020, he received the HSR Health System Impact Award, underscoring his influence on the delivery and design of Veteran health care.
