Resiliency Center Programs & Services

Psychological Support

Academic medicine is meaningful and uniquely stressful. The Resiliency Center offers a suite of support services tailored to meet the emotional well-being needs of U of U Health faculty and staff. Our licensed mental health therapists specialize in working with health care professionals in both individual and group settings.

Individual Consultations

Confidential, short-term (1-4 sessions) one-on-one support designed to help enhance occupational well-being. These sessions are tailored to the individual and may cover the emotional impact of an adverse event, mitigating burnout, workplace interpersonal conflict or moral injury, boundary setting, and referrals to long-term therapy.

Group Check-In

Team-based sessions to debrief shared highly stressful or traumatic events or engage in purposeful conversation about the unique stressors associated with working in academic medicine. These sessions provide a space for faculty and staff to process their emotions, share experiences, connect with their team, and learn strategies to support themselves and others.

Peer Support

A structured program that teaches communication skills and coping strategies to faculty and staff so they can support one another through challenging experiences 鈥搒uch as patient loss, medical errors, or burnout. The program fosters a culture of mutual support from peers who understand the daily realities of working in academic medicine.

CODE LAVENDER

Code Lavender is a coordinated system-wide response for U of U Health teams following a challenging or adverse event. We provide timely support to teams through leadership consultation, individual and group check-ins, support materials, and communications assistance.

What happens when I activate Code Lavender?

  1. CONNECT
The caller will connect with the dispatcher and notify them of the Code Lavender. The Code Lavender triage team will be notified immediately and connect with the caller within 30-60 minutes
  2. TRIAGE
Triage will gather information and determine next steps for communication and immediate short-term support.
  3. ACTIVATION
The code is active for 72 hours as next steps are determined.
  4. CHECK-IN
The Resiliency Center will check-in 72 hours following the event to ensure all immediate needs were met.
  5. MONITORING
The Resiliency Center will continue to oversee the case for as long as needed.

Team Empowerment

The Resiliency Center partners with U of U Health teams to enhance their local culture of well-being and reduce workplace inefficiencies. Our Well-Being Specialists guide team improvement projects, facilitate conversations, and provide customized training for teams.  We also collaborate with Organizational Development, the Office of Faculty, and Human Resources to connect teams to additional expertise and resources.

Team Improvement Projects

Work with a Well-Being Specialist to implement evidence-based intervention tailored to your team鈥檚 needs. Projects use Better U data to identify specific opportunities and use continuous improvement methodology to design, implement, scale and measure impact of a project.

Presentations, Workshops & Series

Engaging one-time presentations or short educational series on essential well-being topics like Psychological Safety, Strategies to Reduce Burnout, and Addressing Occupational Stress Injuries. These sessions provide tools to help your team thrive in demanding work environments.

What Matters to You

Using the  guide, this approach sparks conversations and shared decision-making among teams. A Well-Being Specialist helps teams identify what contributes to meaningful work, what gets in the way, and what opportunities to focus on to create a culture of well-being.

Leadership Consultations

Expert guidance for leaders with a Resiliency Center Well-Being Specialist focused on building resilient and thriving teams. Get guidance on how to create a supportive work environment, reduce job stress and stressors, and build a stronger and more connected team.

RESILIENT SYSTEMS

A supportive work environment consistently identifies and addresses systemic factors impacting employee well-being. We strive to improve structures that create unnecessary strain on employees and to develop robust institutional support that strengthens U of U Health.

Healthcare Stories

An annual event co-hosted by the Resiliency Center, University of Utah Center for Health, Ethics, Arts, and Humanities, and UtahPresents. The event offers a space for U of U Health and community members to share their experiences of health and healthcare live and onstage at Kingsbury Hall.

Better U Survey

A comprehensive survey capturing employee engagement and well-being at U of U Health. The Resiliency Center leads survey design and analysis, reports results to leaders and teams, and facilitates action planning and improvement projects based on results.

Joy in Medicine

U of U Health holds the American Medical Association鈥檚 Joy in Medicine Award (silver status), recognizing our commitment to improving physician and clinical team well-being. The Resiliency Center advances this work through initiatives focused on assessment, commitment, efficiency, teamwork, leadership, and support.
