ABOUT BOH
Stories of identity growth, personal narratives, defining moments, and the ongoing journey of self-understanding in medicine.
Growth Through Challenge
BUNDLE OF HERS is a podcast dedicated to amplifying underspoken voices and stories in medicine. Our journey is a continuous exploration of discoveries, where identity growth, defining moments, and ongoing self-understanding take center focus.
Season eight explores how challenges in medicine鈥攚hether personal, professional, or systemic鈥攕erve as opportunities for growth, self-reflection, and deeper understanding. Through stories of perseverance, resilience, and adaptation, our hosts and guests share how they've navigated the obstacles in their paths and how these moments have shaped their identities in medicine. This season delves into the pivotal moments where struggle meets growth, and how embracing these challenges can lead to a more empowered and self-aware practice of medicine.
By continuing to hold space for vulnerability and authenticity, medical residents and students H岷 L锚, Lilly Kanishka, Laurel Hiatt, Austen Ivey, and Sanila Math invite listeners to reflect on their own experiences within and beyond medicine. Each episode aims to spark dialogue, challenge assumptions, and remind us that growth often begins in the moments we least expect.
Through the power of storytelling, BUNDLE OF HERS has been honored for its impact in amplifying underrepresented voices in medicine. Recognitions include at the 2019 eHealthcare Leadership Awards, at the 2021 AAMC GIA Awards, and at the 2024 AAMC GIA Awards.
MEET THE HOSTS
H岷 L锚, MD
When H岷 isn't reading at a local coffee shop or jamming to K-pop on waterfront runs, she is searching for the best way to center community and narratives in her work鈥攁n interest that has followed her from her hometown in SLC to both U.S. coasts in Boston and SF. Her interest in medicine, in fact, derives from the stories of her communities navigating complex systems to assert their unique voices: from her Vietnamese immigrant mother advocating for her family's health to the queer patients who found comfort when met with patient-centered care. She aspires to center health justice on the transformative power of storytelling as a means for collective movement and empowerment.

 Lilly Kanishka, MD
Lilly is an avid spinner, pottery maker, dog mom, rock climber, yogi, and book lover, alongside her role as a neurology resident. Born and raised in Utah to Afghan refugee parents, Lilly's childhood experiences of interpreting for her family at doctors' visits instilled in her the importance of advocacy in healthcare, particularly in addressing inequities faced by marginalized communities. Motivated by the power and privilege associated with the white coat, Lilly was drawn to medicine as a means to further advocate for her community's needs.

 Laurel Hiatt, MD/PhD GS5
Laurel is a transplant from Georgia to Utah, drawn to the MD/PhD program after completing bachelor's degrees in Spanish and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. With a certificate in interdisciplinary writing, Laurel has always found themselves stretched between different fields of study, career paths, and identities. Their journey in medicine is marked by a deep connection to patients and a commitment to advocating for the safety, health, and well-being of the trans community.

 Austen Ivey, MS4
Austen is the second oldest of six girls. Originally from the East Coast, she has settled into Utah over the past decade and now considers it her home. Despite not anticipating a lengthy stay in Utah, Austen has embraced her time at University of Utah School of Medicine. Outside of academics, Austen enjoys spending time with friends and engaging in new experiences, particularly through hobbies like dancing, karaoke, and water-related activities. Acknowledging the equal worth of every individual's identities and experiences, Austen recognizes her own journey has shaped her perception of the world.

 Sanila Math, MS4
Sanila is a medical student at the University of Utah School of Medicine. With an interest in examining identity and the way life histories intersect, Sanila pursued Bachelor's degrees in anthropology and ethnic studies from the University of Utah. She enjoys connecting with people, and two of her favorite things are to celebrate her friends and drive people to the airport. Her hobbies include creating things, whether through painting, embroidery, clay, or baking. She likes to think of herself as a rock climber but admits she isn't very good. And, she loves a good yap session!
